When to go:

Anytime.

 

Route Selection:

There is only one route to the top...a short (1/2 mile) maintenance road that ascends from a parking area at the base of the summit.  The narrow road is passable with a car, but 4-wheel drive is highly recommended.

 

Hotel and Climb Reservation:

No guide, permit, or trail reservations are required.  There are numerous hotels located throughout the Island, all within a one day  drive of the mountain (it is about 3 hours from San Juan).

Getting There:

Off of Route 143 (Ruta Panaramica).  You will drive through the scenic Torro Negro (Black Bull) forest reserve and see some nice sites on the way up.  The road is very narrow...be warned...it is a two way road, despite the narrow width!  There is a gravel parking area. but the summit and parking area are unmarked. 

 

Look for a HUGE tower complex and you'll know you're at the right spot.  The summit is not particularly attractive...cement steps leading to a lookout covered with graffiti and broken beer bottles.  The antenna towers obscure part of the view.
